An in-depth study of equine communication and how to become an effective leader for your horse.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the progression from groundwork to ridden work, not only in the arena but in circumstances on the trail. There will be a focus on understanding the “why”, “when”, and “how” behind the “what” that is commonly taught in horsemanship clinics. Participants will be prepared with improved understanding and practice with the horse before facing a variety of practical, real-life scenarios. We will be addressing common situations riders face, working to improve communication on all levels with feel, understanding, trust and in an encouraging and fun environment.

Episode 23: Interview with Vicki Wilson
Sunday Jun 12, 2022
Sunday Jun 12, 2022
Tune in to listen to my conversation with Vicki Wilson, one of New Zealand's top equestrians. I first met Vicki during the inaugural Kaimanawa Stallion Challenge in '14 and we were both presenters/clinicians at the national horse expo for many years.
About Vicki Wilson:
Vicki Wilson was riding not long after she could walk. She started competitive showjumping at 15, and began working full time with horses when she was about 17 years old in the far north of New Zealand. After working her way up from local gymkhanas, Vicki has won more awards at the New Zealand Horse of the Year show than any other rider in history. Winning the World Cup in 2014 took her showjumping career to another level, and she’s now one of New Zealand’s most successful riders.
Outside of the competition arena, Vicki has a special talent for working with ‘difficult’ horses and can start any young horse. She is hugely proud of her work with the local Kaimanawa wild horses, the wild brumbies of Australia and American mustangs. Vicki has started hundreds of young horses and has a very specific philosophy that puts the welfare of the horse first and produces “a happy horse that loves its work”.
Vicki cemented her place as one of the world’s most highly respected horsewomen after winning World Championship of Colt Starting title at the Road to the Horse in both 2017 & 2018.
Vicki Wilson Equine Therapy is aimed at helping as many sore horses as possible. She believes there’s no such thing as a problem or naughty horse and that undesirable behaviour is almost always a symptom of pain or fear.
